Frankincense comes from the Boswellia tree located in the Middle East. YL owns two farms for two different species of frankincense.
Boswellia carterii is from Somalia and is named Frankincense on our labels; and Boswellia sacra is from Oman, and is named Sacred Frankincense.
The oil is created by cutting the tree and collecting the sap that rushes to the surface (created to help heal the tree wound) and then steam distilling to create the beloved essential oil.
Though similar in nature, each species can hold slightly different properties, depending on which wellness need you have."Boswellic acids are some of the main compounds found in the frankincense species of sacra and carterii that science is claiming to be anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory. Boswellia sacra has the highest amount of boswellic acids, at 42 percent; and carterii has almost as high an amount, with 40 percent." - D Gary Young Blog
