You’ll walk away with clarity, direction, and a plan you can confidently implement—not just another opinion to sort through.
And while family milk cows are often where this starts, Ben doesn’t think in species silos. With decades of experience in livestock nutrition and husbandry, he formulates custom feed rations for whatever you’re stewarding—beef cattle, calves, pigs, poultry, and beyond. Because good nutrition principles don’t change… but how they’re applied absolutely does. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s a tailored approach designed to help your animals perform, stay healthy, and ultimately feed your family well—without the trial and error costing you time, money, and condition along the way.
For a Lactating Cow:
- How long has she/they been in milk?
- Daily milk production
- Do you want more production?
- Age of cow
- Weight of the cow (ask if you need help)
- Good pictures of the back and sides of cow, and video walkthrough for Body Condition Scoring
- Pictures of nutrition tags of feed currently feeding and poundage
- Is there anything else you would like to feed instead? What other feeds are available you would like to feed?
- Hay type and quality (a hay test result is the best option), but if you do not have one, please describe in detail what is in the hay and include if it was first, second, or third cutting
- Pasture type and quality
- Mineral Program & tags if possible
- Is there anything else you would like to address?
For a Dry Cow:
- When is/are she/they due?
- Age of cow
- Weight of the cow (ask if you need help)
- What was the milk production they were at last peak freshening?
- Good pictures of the back and sides of cow, and video walkthrough for Body Condition Scoring
- What is she being fed currently? Hay? Pasture? Supplemental feeds?
